I'm Geraldine Hughes, a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, specialising in supporting children, adolescents and their whanau where there is a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. Through carefully understanding these difficulties, day to day functioning improves. I also specialise in supporting parents who experience their child as demanding or clingy, to shift focus from behaviour management to enhancing the quality of relationship.
I use a play based approach with children, including sandplay and art. Circle of Security Parent Programme is offered for parents seeking understanding of their child’s emotional needs which may lie behind problematic behaviours. Watch Wait and Wonder is a child-led infant-parent psychotherapy that strengthens the parent/child relationship.
I aim to provide a safe, professional and supportive experience for infants, children and whānau experiencing troubles and challenges. I use a reflective and collaborative approach to build trust with families in order to provide the best therapeutic fit.
