Kia ora, Talofa, Hello! I am passionate about supporting people in the LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and polyamorous/CNM alternative relationship structure communities. I apply an intersectional lens to understanding experiences of distress. I enjoy working with and resourcing gender-diverse humans, and exploring ways to enhance gender euphoria. I work with individuals (16+), whānau (families), and couples/triads/polycules. I bring creativity, curiosity, and unconditional positive regard to the people I work with. It is a privilege to walk alongside people on their life journey and to bear witness to their growth and development.

People come to counselling for many reasons. You may be responding to distress, confusion, loss, trauma, or difficulties in relationships, or you may be wanting space to explore hopes, values, and dreams for the future. Counselling can offer support when emotions such as sadness, anger, panic, or loneliness feel overwhelming, or when past experiences of harm, regret, or untold stories are weighing heavily. Having a safe, confidential space to speak openly can make a meaningful difference.

At the heart of our work is building a strong foundation of trust. I support adults from diverse backgrounds who feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, low in mood, or unsure of their next direction. They may be navigating anxiety, stress, depression, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, or life transitions. I also help couples navigate difficult times with Gottman couples counselling. Often, they’ve been coping on their own for a long time and are ready for support. They want clarity, steadiness, and a safe space to make sense of what’s happening so they can move forward with greater confidence and emotional and mental resilience.

I am a Nelson-based Psychotherapist offering short-term and long-term psychotherapy for adults, children and young people. My approach to working in therapy relies mainly on psychodynamic theories; meaning that I believe our early experiences have a significant impact on us. We may search for patterns in your life, to better understand what may be causing and perpetuating your problems. In long-term therapy it is crucial that you come to trust me, to share these often very personal memories and experiences.

In my counselling work, I prioritise you as the expert in your own life and learn about your current position in what you’re experiencing. In time, we can work together to build pathways toward a life that is empowering to you, your family, and your community. I use methods such as externalising problems, re-authoring your stories, and working with community

Seeking therapy is not only for those with mental health struggles, but effective therapy can be extremely worthwhile for many and critically necessary for some. I believe that therapy can help manage life’s many challenges and live a more fulfilling and meaningful life, providing us insight into our inner most thoughts and feelings and how to cope with them. As a Nurse Therapist (Psychotherapy Graduate), I have trained in different therapeutic modalities to work with a wide range of clients of various age groups who struggle with complex trauma, addictions, depression, anxiety, sexuality and sexual trauma

I help individuals to thrive - predominately in relationship. As a couples counsellor/therapist I use Positive Psych, Relational Life Therapy, and Attachment Theory; adding mindfulness (presence skills) so clients can co-regulate, in session and in their lives. This model is a place of sharing - where any work that the individual needs, is witnessed and compassionately attuned to, by the partner. Many of my clients are Adult Diagnosed ADHD or AuDHD; Gifted; or partnered with such. 'Normal' is as unique as single individual I see. With communication skills, honesty, and intent - we can see you back to thriving.

It can be really difficult to share your deepest concerns. Trusting another person with your ‘stuff’ can feel deeply uncomfortable. With this in mind, I do my best to build a respectful relationship with you (and your partner if you're here for relationship therapy). No matter why you have come to therapy, or what you may share during each session, my role is to support and help you make sense of what's going on for you. It is not to judge, or tell you what to do.

Kia Ora and welcome. I help people who struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship difficulties. I offer years of experience working with people who were diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and with people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. My special interest lies in meaning and purpose, and in finding hope again after becoming disillusioned and demoralised. You will find a caring, accepting, and thoughtful space with a genuine interest in who you are. It is important to me to understand your struggles with empathy while appreciating your strengths.

Bisexual Counsellors
What is bisexual-affirming therapy?
Bisexual-affirming therapy is a type of mental health support that fully affirms and reflects a client’s bisexual identity. It is rooted in acceptance and does not attempt to change or question an individual’s orientation. In this type of therapy, clients work with a therapist who understands the unique experiences of bisexual people. This support is especially important, as research shows that bisexual individuals face higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation compared to other groups. Bisexual-affirming therapy acknowledges that bisexual individuals may encounter specific stressors—such as invalidation, relationship challenges, and minority stress—that require specialised understanding and intervention. Many therapists also provide couples therapy for bisexual partners, helping them navigate relationship dynamics, communication challenges, or external stressors that may impact their relationship. While not required, some clients prefer working with bisexual therapists who may bring personal insight to the therapeutic relationship. However, a non-bisexual therapist with strong training and a genuine commitment to affirmation can be equally effective. The most important factor is finding a therapist who understands how identity impacts mental health and can create a space of trust and respect.

What can a bisexual therapist help with?
Bisexual-affirming therapists can provide support across a wide range of concerns relevant to bisexual individuals. Whether through personal or professional experience, they often have specialised knowledge in areas such as the coming out process, navigating stereotypes, and dealing with common stressors. Relationship support is another key area of focus, as bisexual clients may face unique challenge when dating or maintaining relationships across genders. Affirming therapists can also help clients build coping strategies for managing discrimination or stigma. Additionally, many bisexual-affirming therapists can connect clients to other providers or community-based resources—such as bisexual support groups or LGBTQ+ organisations—that offer additional affirming spaces for connection. It's important to note that therapists provide can talk therapy and counseling services but do not prescribe medication—if medication is needed for conditions like depression or anxiety, they will coordinate care with a psychiatrist or primary care physician who can provide psychiatric medication management alongside therapeutic support.

How do I find a bisexual therapist?
The Psychology Today online directory is a helpful tool for finding bisexual-affirming therapists. You can use search filters to identify therapists who specialise in LGBTQ+ care and work specifically with bisexual clients. You can also filter by clinical specialties, therapeutic approaches, accepted insurance, session costs, and languages spoken to find the right fit. During initial consultations or early sessions, ask potential therapists about their specific training in bisexual-affirming care, their experience with LGBTQ+ clients, and their therapeutic approach to identity-related concerns. An effective bisexual-affirming therapist will demonstrate genuine understanding of bisexual experiences, including awareness of the unique challenges facing bisexual individuals. You can also look for credentials or continuing education in areas such as LGBTQ+ mental health, trauma-informed care, and intersectionality.
