Kia ora! As well as private practice I also work as a Counsellor at Karanga Mai Young Parents College so have a real affinity and connection with children and young people. As a result I tend to work with people of all ages and deal with a broad range of issues from anxiety, eating disorders, domestic violence and depression through to grief, self-esteem and stress. My preferred modalities are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy and focus on acceptance of life with all its complexities while still being able to work towards valued goals.
My Counselling is focused on acceptance of the things that we can not change, but most importantly, working together to discover the strengths that exist already so that we can achieve the goals or live within the values that matter most to us. Some of the values that are meaningful to me are connection, family, humour, curiousity, empathy and growth.
I know that it can feel overwhelming going to a Counsellor, so I am all about building a relationship so that you can feel comfortable. I am warm, easy to talk to and have a good sense of humour which can really help with the tough stuff. I think you are doing the right thing by making your mental well-being a priority and would love to help support you.
