I offer a kind, professional and confidential service to individuals, all kinds of couples , and families.
Kia ora koutou. Sometimes everything can get too much and is hard to navigate. Sometimes the inside gets really noisy, and it becomes hard to operate. It is completely normal to experience and to get stuck in these times or perhaps notice some unhelpful patterns of behaviour. I'm passionate about supporting people to find their way through these times. Together we will explore your world. To help you understand where you are; see different perspectives; and help you find practical solutions; that will initially help you cope and then begin to move forward.

The main factor in success therapy is the positive relationship between us as client and counsellor.
Kiaora. I am looking forward to meeting and working with you on finding your authentic self. I like to encourage you to become curious about yourself and where your thoughts and emotions come from. Or how you can cope with the problems that arise from everyday living. Life can really throw some punches and often you are not given a choice. My role is to be there for you, encouraging exploration and change and an ability to ride out the waves.

We're been privileged to work with thousands of couples to create lasting love in our relationship program.
Are you frustrated, stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, and burnt out? Perhaps your relationships are struggling and one of you has already checked out. Your partner says “I love you but I’m not IN love with you”. You feel more like flatmates than friends and lovers. And perhaps you don’t know how to fix it and you’re just sick and tired of being unhappy and you want to feel at peace with yourself, your partner and your life ALL not just some of the time.

My experiences are in statutory, community and health social work including service management of social services. There are many therapeutic interventions available to us, but not all are useful. The saying 'one size fits all' doesn't apply here. I can help people setting reasonable goals and support them achieving their goals. I am interested in these areas: Talking therapy; relationships; low esteem and lack of confidence; stress and anxiety; social work supervision; life coaching and Christian guidance. Thank you for your time.

Tēnā koe, I’m Zoe (she/her). I’ve always been drawn to people and spaces that are outside of the mainstream, I value being truly seen and accepted by others, and authenticity is important to me. Before I was a psychologist I had some varied and colourful life experiences, and this informs my open-minded understanding and acceptance of others from many walks of life. I love being able to offer therapy as an affirming space where we can explore all the parts that make you you, as well as working on practical and evidence-based strategies to improve your life and work towards your goals.

Having been trained not only as a psychotherapist but also as a Yoga psychology teacher, it is my belief that life provides a journey for us to become more conscious, awaken our inner light, find our purpose, and discover our qualities and gifts. The philosophies I learned and practice suggest that we are holistic beings having a human experience, and that karmic events happen recurrently in our lives so that we can transcend egos, overcome suffering, and learn lessons that can lead us to experience peace and equanimity. If that resonates with you, I am here to assist you on your journey.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
