Kia ora, my name is Glen, I'm a fully qualified therapist with extensive training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) with IFSCA and have become part of their training team. I know it can be hard to find the right therapist. You are inviting someone into your inner world and that requires the courage to be vulnerable. It is a privilege to be part of my clients' journeys, it is sacred to me, and I value the opportunity greatly. Your courage to reach out and be vulnerable will be met safely and with respect, a space to be seen, heard and understood. A space where healing can happen.

I work with adults who struggle with relationships, bullying, alcohol, anxiety, and depression. Often my clients have been abused sexually, survived domestic violence and/or neglect in their childhood. This means clients might find it hard to be in close relationships, have a sense of 'being hollow inside', constantly worry about 'getting it wrong', find it hard to say no, be constantly busy, feel angry or frustrated at others, feel 'flat and rudderless' in life, and/or self-soothe (eg alcohol) to make life easier. I am interested in helping people process their psychobiography to feel more at peace.

Kia ora, Ni sa Bula Vinaka and Namaste, I’m Ashley. I use an anti-oppressive, holistic, trauma-informed lens centered around those most impacted by patriarchy, sexism, misogyny, and colonization. I support women, femmes, and non-binary people of color through identity struggles, cultural assimilation, and trauma including racial, intergenerational, and sexual. I use Indigenous wellness models and trauma-informed yoga to foster healing and provide strategies for nervous system regulation & body reconnection. My focus is on easing anxiety, depression, sensory overwhelm, and a deeper understanding for highly sensitive people.

I find inspiration in working with people to discover the possibilities in their lives to experience fearlessness, expression, joy, love and freedom. I am a specialist in navigating safely from abuse and decolonisation. Together we can find safe pathways of meaning from suffering to liberation from our socialisation, and attachment imprinting. Through exploring cultural, spiritual, and creative practices to embrace and reflect on ancestral, intergenerational, and personal stories we can anchor in our strengths to heal and connect more deeply with ourselves and others. An artist and mystic focused on soulful living.

However we grow up, childhood experience creates habits and expectations that shape our adult selves. Often these habits seem to get in our way. What once kept us safe may now cause us pain, inhibition, depression, addiction and more. Therapy begins with the experience of being heard, without judgement. The client is the expert on their own way of living. So I ask them to teach me about themselves, while I try to get a feeling for the things that frustrate them and how they might find the freedom to live richer, more satisfying lives.

I invest a lot into research, and into integrative healthcare, and am Harvard Medical School Educated. Distress doesn’t discriminate, and mental health exists for everyone. I’ve been a client and clinician in both public and private health, and both have virtues and vices, however I thrive in the diversity of being Internationally Licensed. I invest excellence back into my clients, and am highly empathic. Fascinated by how and why, and if you’re feeling scared to reach out-I felt scared when I needed help too. Quality care provided!

Kia ora! I am a narrative therapist working in Poneke. I have met with people of all ages and backgrounds as they talk with me about what their hopes and intentions are for life and what gets in the way of these. It is my work with survivors of sexual violence which began my journey to being a counsellor. However, I since met with people navigating all types of life's challenges and have a particular interest in speaking with those journeying with grief - whether this be from a death or a significant change.

My work often addresses anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, inner child work, mind body connection, how the past influences our present and addressing ways of coping that no longer serve us. My collaborative work with clients is informed by the relationship between mind and body and the growing understanding of the role of our nervous system in our emotional well being. We explore together what is working well, what is no longer serving individuals and what’s needed to support their needs.

My role as a counsellor is to help you to get on the path to bring about the changes you wish to make in your life. I believe in listening to, valuing and honouring people and the path they walk in life. I am available to meet with you to discuss and talk through anything that is concerning you, or that you would like to see different in your life. An initial counselling session will enable you to discuss with me what you want to achieve during the counselling process. It will also help me to gain a bigger picture of who you are, so together we can work out how you will bring the changes you seek to make.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
