I use person-centred, narrative and solution focused therapies to help people explore their feelings and move into their preferred identities that will propel them to live a life filled with joy and hope. I teach useful strategies that can help with anxiety, regulating feelings, confidence and social skills, as well as helping people find the root cause of the problems they face. I have experience working with all ages, and especially love my work with children, adolescents and young people. I also have a special interest in neurodiversity, autism and ADHD.

I’m a registered counsellor in private practice, please see my website for detailed info and my availability. While being a human isn’t always easy, there are ways to make it easier and more fulfilling - anyone can learn to make significant improvements to their lives and relationships with insight, new tools, a bit of humour, and the right support. I particularly enjoy working with people who experience anxiety or are too hard on themselves, and anyone ready and willing to do the work of making changes to patterns that no longer serve them.

I believe everyone has a purpose. I believe the answers to finding that purpose is a journey. The experiences you encounter while on that journey will lead you toward various pathways challenging the choices you make at the intersections in your life. The value of your experiences is the learning you gain, and the courage you develop to recognize that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. What matters...is you. Its your journey.

In our current world people are expected to enter into a competitive and turbulent world of rapid changes. I believe therapy is one of the best gifts we can give to our present, past and future selves. To our children, and those close to us. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I facilitate an exploration of how your life experiences might be alive in your current struggles and relationships. Often the ways we learnt to manage difficulty may now hinder, rather than help us.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
