Writer's Guidelines

Thanks for your interest in Psychology Today. As you know, our website and print magazine explore every aspect of human behavior, from the cultural trends that reflect the way we think to the inner workings of individual brains. Psychologists and mental health professionals read PT, as do curious and intelligent lay readers.

If you'd like to propose a new Psychology Today blog or an article for the magazine, please see the guidelines below. To send proposals, visit psychologytoday.submittable.com.

Psychology Today blogs

Most articles on psychologytoday.com are written by our network of expert authors. Each author typically publishes regular blog posts focused on a particular theme or set of topics.

Are you a clinician, scientist, mental health expert, or writer who has a great idea for a new Psychology Today blog? Do you represent someone who does? We want to hear about it.

Please describe your proposal, why you want to start the blog now, and what qualifies you (or the proposed author) to write it. You may also attach or include links to 1-3 samples of previously published writing.

Psychology Today magazine

If you are a clinician, scientist, mental health expert, or writer who would like to publish regular pieces on a particular theme or set of topics, please first consider making a blog proposal. Many of our magazine contributors begin as Psychology Today bloggers.

What We Need

We are looking for good, clearly articulated story ideas—and writers with talent to bring these ideas to life. Nearly any subject related to psychology is fair game. We value originality, insight, and good reporting. We do not consider poetry or fiction.

How to Get an Assignment

Please explain what you'd like to write and, if applicable, mention sources you might contact. Let us know if you think your proposal is suited for a particular section of the magazine. Tell us why you want to write this piece now and why you should be the one to write it.

If your writing has been published before, attach or include links to 1-3 clips.

Due to the amount of queries we receive, our staff is not able to respond to all proposals.
