About

Richard Louv's newest book is OUR WILD CALLING: How Connecting With Animals Can Transform Our Lives — and Save Theirs (Algonquin Books). The New York Times calls OUR WILD CALLING "a book that offers hope," and Psychology Today calls it "a game changer." Among his earlier books, Louv's LAST CHILD IN THE WOODS: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorderhelped spawn an international movement to reconnect children and nature. The book "rivals Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring,” according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. He is also the author of THE NATURE PRINCIPLE and VITAMIN N and six additional books. His books have been translated into 20 languages.

Louv serves as chairman emeritus of the Children & Nature Network, an organization helping to build that movement. He has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Outside, Sierra, Orion, The Times of London, Parents Magazine, and other publications. He speaks frequently to audiences in the United States and abroad. He has appeared on "The Today Show," "Good Morning America," "CBS Evening News," NPR's "Talk of the Nation," and many other programs. In 2008, he was awarded the Audubon Medal by the National Audubon Society. Past recipients have included Rachel Carson, E.O. Wilson, and Jimmy Carter. He is married to Kathy Frederick Louv and the father of two sons. He would rather hike than write.
