Tomislav D. Zbozinek Ph.D.
Tomislav D. Zbozinek, Ph.D., is a California-based licensed clinical psychologist in private practice (Anxiety and Depression Treatment Specialists) and the Associate Director of UCLA's Anxiety & Depression Research Center. His work involves the full scope of research and therapy: conducting experiments to understand how the mind works, updating therapies based on that new understanding, running clinical trials evaluating new therapeutic methods, and conducting therapy in practice using the latest approaches.
Zbozinek believes it’s important for the general public to have access to the latest evidence-based therapies. Often, this cutting-edge information is published in scientific journals that the general population usually doesn’t read. On this page, he writes directly to the public about anxiety, depression, and positivity to help individuals navigate these common emotional experiences in their daily lives and to learn how maybe they or someone they know could benefit from therapy on these topics.
Zbozinek earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from UCLA. He conducted a pre-doctoral clinical internship at UCLA’s Counseling and Psychology Services center, as well as a postdoctoral fellowship at the California Institute of Technology. He was trained at UCLA by world-renown anxiety and depression expert Michelle G. Craske. Among several experiments he is conducting, he is currently running an NIMH-funded clinical trial at UCLA evaluating a potential way to improve exposure therapy for anxiety disorders; this clinical trial focuses on social anxiety disorder. He has published more than 30 articles across a variety of scientific journals including Depression and Anxiety; Behaviour Research and Therapy; the Journal of Anxiety Disorders; Computational Psychiatry; and PLOS Computational Biology, and he is a Text Editor within the anxiety disorders category of psychology’s main diagnostic manual: the DSM-5-TR.
