About

Stephen Furlich, Ph.D., has taught and researched communication at the university level for over 20 years. He has taught and researched with the main focus of better understanding human behaviors. In particular, he focuses on the analysis of communication behaviors that often go unnoticed. With this knowledge, people can intentionally communicate to achieve their goals. He is currently an associate professor in the Communication Studies Program at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Dr. Furlich explicitly expresses in his research the benefit of applying academic research. It is not enough to only learn about communication. One must also develop communication skills to communicate more effectively. His books Sex Talk and Nonverbal Epiphany help readers develop those skills.

He has become fascinated with technological advancements in science that has enabled a better understanding of communication. Without these scientific advances, understanding communication is quite limited. This line of research has inspired him to write his books to bring together many different scientific studies to better understand the role of biology with communication. His perspective is that only focusing on social influences limits understanding. One’s biology influences their communication and their communication influences their biological reactions.
