Michelle Au M.D.

About

Michelle Au, M.D., is an attending physician of anesthesiology at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She received her M.D. from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2003, and completed a residency in Anesthesiology in 2008.

For the past ten years, she has been writing online about her experiences growing up in the world of academic medicine, as well as the world outside it. The writings from her blog "The Underwear Drawer" have been featured on WebMD, The Student Doctor Network, Metafilter, KevinMD, and Revolution Health, and her medical comic strips have been featured extensively at dozens of academic medical centers internationally. Michelle was recently a featured speaker at the conference "The Examined Life: Writing and the Art of Medicine" at the University of Iowa.

She is married to Dr. Joseph Walrath, with whom she has two sons, Cal and Mack, and lives in Atlanta, GA.
