About

Dr. Liz Nissim, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and certified school psychologist specializing in treating the whole child—addressing emotional, social, behavioral, and academic needs at home and school. With years of experience, she is dedicated to helping children and families achieve their fullest potential.

Dr. Liz's practice began as a part-time endeavor until 2012 when she transitioned from the school system to private practice. Initially working from her home office, she later expanded to a dedicated office space and assembled a team of carefully selected therapists who share her gentle, compassionate approach to care.

She provides comprehensive services to children and families coping with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Learning disabilities (with a focus on dyslexia)
  • Behavioral challenges

Her private practice offers a wide range of evidence-based interventions, including:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Play therapy
  • Parent coaching
  • Executive functioning coaching
  • Psycho-educational evaluations (for creation of an IEP or 504 Plan at the high school, college, and graduate school level)
  • IEP/504 accommodation plan optimization
  • IEP advocacy and educational consulting

Dr. Liz and her team prioritize well-aligned parenting approaches to create consistent home environments with clear boundaries and behavioral expectations, empowering children and their families to thrive.

As an educational consultant, Dr. Liz helps parents optimize their child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and navigate the special education process. Her expertise as a former school psychologist on a Child Study Team gives her in-depth knowledge of New Jersey’s special education code law. She is a skilled advocate, ensuring children receive the services and support they need to succeed academically and socially.

She further receives cases from special education lawyers and family lawyers to understand a student's academic profile and find the program and placement specific to the student's specific needs.

Dr. Liz earned her B.A. in psychology, as well as her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology, from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison and Teaneck. Outside of her professional life, she is the proud mother of three children, whose experiences keep her grounded and connected with the challenges and joys of parenting.
