About

Liz Nissim-Matheis, Ph.D., is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and certified School Psychologist who specializes in treating the whole child—which includes home and school, emotionally, socially, and behaviorally. The practice remained part-time until 2012 when she left the school system and worked out of her home office for 5 years. Soon thereafter, she acquired office space outside of her home and started building her team of therapists.

She provides services to children, and their families, struggling with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Learning Disabilities (notably, dyslexia)
  • Behavioral Struggles

In her private practice, she has a team of therapists whom she has hand-selected to provide the same level of care with a gentle and caring approach. She and her team provide:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Play Therapy
  • Parent Coaching
  • In-home Executive Functioning Coaching
  • Co-Parenting for Divorced or Divorcing Parents
  • Marriage Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Psycho-Educational Evaluations (for extended time on SAT/ACT/LSAT/GRE/MCAT)
  • IEP/504 Accommodation Plan Optimization
  • IEP Parent Advocate

She and her team focus on well-aligned parenting styles via parent coaching to create a consistent home environment and the establishment of boundaries and behavioral expectations to help children and families to realize their fullest potential.

She also serves as an Educational Consultant to parents who are seeking to optimize their child’s IEP and need support and advocacy to maximize their child’s special education program and related services. As a former School Psychologist on the Child Study Team, she understands the special education code law in New Jersey and can help parents to gain the special education and related services that their child needs to progress and flourish.

She was trained at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison and Teaneck, where she earned her B.A. in Psychology and M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She is the proud mother of 3 children. They keep her on her toes and help her to connect with parents who are going through similar developmental phases with their children.
