New Technology and Mental Health
The Pervasive Technology Lab (CIC) (http://www.pervasive-technology-lab.org) are looking into the use of new technology such as Serious Games to help people with depression. The idea being that a game can teach people how to deal with triggers of depression in a fun and informal way. There has already been work done on the use of Virtual Reality (VR) to help people with psychological problems such as Post-Traumatic Disorder (PTSD) and phobias, exposing people to their fear in a safe environment to an extent that it is no longer a problem. So in summary as the original article gas pointed out new technology can be exploited to help people with mental health problems, not necessarily replacing existing methods but acting as another tool to help patients.
