If you see the ever-present 'keeping up with the Joneses' attitude twenty and thirty something's have, they are not interested in having authentic lives. They are interested in appearing like they have authentic lives. The disillusionment starts when they reach their forties, and all of a sudden it seems very silly. I live in a wealthy northeastern suburb, and the cookie-cutter mentality of my neighbors drives me crazy. And most of us have graduate degrees. It is not that they are stupid, it just shows how these people need to be part of a popular group to feel valuable.

It is a fact of life that we all change careers or life paths and most of us will break our marriage vows at one time or another. We are complex, thinking individuals who thrive on change.
