Most people are unaware that in Maslow's later years he proposed Transcendence above Self-Actualization in the hierarchy of needs. I just read "The Farther Reaches of Human Nature" which highlights the difference between "merely healthy self-actualizers" and "self-actualizing transcenders." It's fascinating.
