I have learned to self-soothe and it has changed my life. Instead of spiraling into catastrophic thoughts, I can now give someone the benefit of the doubt, or practice self-compassion. The thoughts I can guide myself to make a huge difference in how I am feeling, and it is great that they can come from me; I don’t have to wait for someone else to reassure me. Depending on others to soothe my emotions handicapped me and made me much more miserable than a I needed to be. Once I learned that I could soothe my own emotions, I became much stronger and more resilient.
