Why are so many people drawn to conspiracy theories in times of crisis?

I really found this article to be interesting. Often times, we are naturally trained as a child to also hug or show affection to relatives or friends we are not comfortable with. This creates a learned behavior that I believe to be unhealthy for humanity.
