I feel you man, it can be intense. But first, let me say that no matter what happens, we all will probably get our heart broken eventually. And we all recover. In the meantime tho, I'd say the best thing to do is good old self improvement, do things to better yourself and conquer fear. The love you for you thing is true. There is a myriad of little things that you can do to help in a relationship. Do research, check your sources tho. If you manage yourself and things still don't work out, then they weren't going to ever and trust me that's ok too.
