I agree that other people
I agree that other people will talk to our children about weight-- even if we don't-- and we should be open to conversations about weight that our children initiate. However, I would emphasize (as you did) that weight is not so important and focus more on how your child feels. Many of the conversations that our children bring up about weight, especially concern that they weigh "too much" or are unhappy with the way that their body looks, can be framed in context of body-image and helping the child develop acceptance and compassion for themselves.
