Narcissists are children who are raised with the implied admonishment of, "You do not matter unless you achieve." They are given the conflicting messages of a) you are nothing, and b) escape from "a" is possible with enough achievement, but the problem is that "a" was never true. The narcissism is deeper the more their caretaker believe themself to be valueless. What narcissists need is to learn "a" is a myth.
