Why are so many people drawn to conspiracy theories in times of crisis?

I'm not familiar with Hannah Fry, but it's not unusual to find two so-called authorities with opposite viewpoints. I find it to be true in my own life that expressing anger and resentment to the exclusion of positive feelings (which may lurk a bit more under the surface) only feeds the bad feelings. That is not to say one should shut up about legitimate upsets and unhappiness.
