I have been busy since I last posted a list of family-based or Maudsley treatment centers. I have added a number of programs thanks to recommendations from my colleagues at the Academy of Eating Disorders. We have talked a lot about FBT (also known as the Maudsley approach) in this blog. Both Nancy and I have attended FBT conferences. I have completed two FBT trainings with Jim Lock and Daniel leGrange (researchers who have disseminated FBT) and use FBT techniques in my nutrition treatment. Our book, The Parent’s Guide to Eating Disorders, advises parents on how to use FBT at home. In my soon to be published book for professionals, Nutrition Counseling in the Treatment of Eating Disorders, I lay out how nutritionists can use FBT techniques in their practices.
Below is my most recent list of treatment centers who have self-identified as providing family-based treatment (FBT). I have not listed the many therapists, nutritionists, and medical professionals in small practices who are certified in FBT and/or have completed FBT trainings. The Training Institute for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders lists therapists certified in FBT. Because professionals and treatment programs vary in approach and adherence to FBT, I encourage families to ask questions when seeking care. Providers and parents can attend conferences on FBT.
