I know struggling alone is very hard and a fearful place to be in, being depressed, having intrusive thoughts, and feeling not good enough. These are all symptoms of your mental health. As a pre-accredited (IACP) psychotherapist, I want to provide a safe and friendly environment as I work with individuals and couples to help them overcome unhelpful thinking habits. I love working with people and have a passion for counselling and psychotherapy. I love to see people becoming more aware and living more peacefully, taking care of themselves, and being kind to themselves; this can be achieved in counselling and psychotherapy.

I am an experienced, accredited Psychotherapist in private practice since 2011. My focus is seeing the person as unfolding at different stages along life's journey. Sometimes along the way we can be knocked sideways. Failure ,loss ,abuse, relationship issues or bad choices can leave us experiencing stress, loss ,anxiety and depression . Early intervention is essential and my role as psychotherapist is to listen and enable you to gain insight. Any issue when talked about and explored in a supportive non judgemental therapeutic relationship where you are understood and supported will bring about positive change.

I work with a variety of clients who are overwhelmed withnissues affecting them and who feel that they are unable to cope, or that the could cope better if they could find a way of dealing with things. Using the human givens framework helps us to look at all the things affecting them, and by understanding them and their consequences more, find new ways of getting their emotional needs met. By engaging with people in a compassionate and non judgemental way, together we can find strengths and resources that help us overcome the challenges that we have.

Reaching out and asking for help can be daunting, and I fully understand this. Sometimes we feel we can manage ourselves, yet, the issue never seems to go away. Sleepless nights, constant worrying and feeling nobody understands you only adds to existing concerns. My aim is to provide a safe and confidental space were you can explore any issues that may be affecting how you live your life day to day.

I incorporate many concepts from different theoretical approaches, including person-centred, cognitive-behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy.
Are you having difficulty putting into words how you are feeling or looking for a welcoming, non-judgmental, confidential and respectful space where you can safely share thoughts, feelings, and challenges at a pace that suits you? Having worked in Cuan Mhuire Galway and Let’s Get Talking Galway, I found that treating people during and after recovery for addiction most clients presented with having experienced some form of trauma. I specialise in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and how addiction can be a coping mechanism

Although, I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including Humanistic, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy & Breathwork.
Your mental health is as important and unique as your physical health. The two are tightly intertwined, what affects one often has an impact on the other. Life can be full of challenges and obstacles that can sometimes feel overwhelming and it's perfectly okay to seek a little extra help to navigate through them. Counselling is a space where you can open up about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment.

Motivational Interviewing Counsellors

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathises, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviours in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behaviour.
