Gary believes that everyone has a unique life experience, and therefore chooses the approach best suited to the individual and issue. The role of a PSI certified Psychologist is to explore each client’s personal world and problems and give them tools to understand and better their lives. Gary’s main approach is cognitive behavioral (acceptance and commitment therapy) which examines the choices, freedoms and limitations of a person’s life, and has trained extensively in Psychodynamic practice. Gary has worked with adults and adolescents dealing with various therapeutic issues from depression, anxiety to identity issues and addiction.
He spent many years within the NHS in London working with people in psychological distress. Gary has worked extensively with Gay men's struggles and how it relates to self-esteem, depression and anxiety. He has also worked in various primary and secondary therapeutic care settings including hospitals, schools, and Irish Prison Service.
Gary pioneered a CBT based psychological harm reduction intervention within the NHS for people with relationship, intimacy and sexual confidence issues. He completed his PhD research on sexualized drug use and intimacy/identity. He has worked extensively with relationship and identity issues with his clients from all backgrounds.
