Providing Psychotherapy in a safe one to one environment. More than ever people need to talk, whether feeling depressed, stressed or experiencing anxiety . Psychotherapy can help manage suffering, pains and healing. My aim is to help you understand symptoms and heal through them. Therapy is an investment, as we talk we begin to understand our feelings and our behaviours. We can see the internal conflicts that begin to shift and ease, as we speak. Using our voice is one of the many difficulties we face, but having a safe, environment can help us to think, act and feel differently. Invest in yourself and see the small changes.

I am a Humanistic and Integrative psychotherapist who holds a Master’s Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. My work is focused on creating a warm and safe environment, where clients can explore their life experiences and personal difficulties. In this space, they can build a deeper understanding of themselves and learn to accept the various and unique aspects of who they are. I believe that everyone deserves the chance to get professional support when needed. I provide this with kindness and empathy within a non-judgmental, confidential environment. I see the quality of the therapeutic relationship as central to psychotherapy.

"At times in our lives we can feel over-whelmed, that we can’t cope, when depression and anxiety take over. At such times we can end up feeling stuck, not knowing what to do next. Old patterns of behaviour and coping strategies, which were once effective, may now operate as a stumbling block in our lives." Hi, my name is Sinéad and since qualifying as a Psychotherapist I have undergone further training in the areas of Somatics and Emotion Focused Therapy with an emphasis on working with trauma, loss and attachment. I use an integrative approach, adopting my therapeutic style to the specific needs of the client.

My interest in psychotherapy, spirituality and meditation began after the end of my marriage several years ago, which like many other types of losses, triggered a lot of suffering. Life transition, family and friends losses, the breakup of long-term relationships, stress, anxiety and depression are all part of human suffering. However, we have an innate capability, which we can strengthen, that allows us to navigate and, more importantly, learn from our most difficult life experiences.

My priority as a counsellor is to enable you to find your freedom from beliefs, fears , thoughts and behaviours that serve no positive purpose in your life.
People can run in to psychological difficulty for many reasons. Family conflict, financial, sexual, health, work, trauma, bereavement, identity, addiction, infertility and relationship issues can play a big part in this. As a result you might be struggling to cope, feeling depressed and disconnect, experiencing anxiety , fear and panic attacks. You might be looking for some support, sense of relief, a safe place to explore whatever is bothering you. Counselling & Psychotherapy may be helpful. It gives you an opportunity to discover unknown aspects of yourself, to feel happier and more connected to yourself and others.

Depression, anxiety , stress, suicidal ideation bereavement and loss, self-esteem, sexual abuse, trauma, sexual identity/orientation, bullying and workplace issues, life transitions, relationships and intimacy issues, body issues.
From my perspective, psychotherapy means healing. It is the opening, where individuals begin to experience a more full contact with themselves and the outside world. I help them understand their emotions that signpost their needs. I help them to discover their unfulfilled needs and, together, we look for obstacles and barriers that could prevent people from fully enjoying their lives. One step at a time, they become increasingly ready to lead their lives consciously. They begin to authentically live, rather than continue, their lives.

My intention is to accompany you in a collaborative, receptive and active way in making a positive impact on your life and moving towards your goals by offering a non-judgmental space where you can explore parts of yourself and connect to your needs and resources to break out from old patterns and step into your highest potential. I view therapy as a joint creative process and I believe that each person has already what is needed to overcome their struggles when given the appriopriate environment and that through compassion for all parts of ourselves we step closer to reaching inner freedom and living the life we truly want.

Work pressures, financial worries, relationship problems, and unresolved personal issues can all impact on the way we feel about ourselves and the way we perceive the world around us. Do you ever wonder why the same problems keep arising or why the same mistakes keep occurring? Where our feelings and thoughts become overwhelming they can cause us to feel lost, fearful, and lonely.

Psychotherapy offers the possibility to explore various aspects of your life in a way that is rarely possible with family or friends. Psychotherapy offers a space where you can speak of your suffering and presents the opportunity to re-shape it. It can be a truly transformative experience where you can reflect on your experience in a confidential way.

I will accompany you as you gain insight into your feelings, behaviours and concerns. I can also support you in developing healthy coping skills, to enhance your emotional well-being. Counselling is not undertaken with the intention of changing who we are. It's an opportunity to understand yourself fully, so that you can begin to move forward from a position of increased personal insight and self-compassion.

Anxiety Counsellors

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
