I have provided psychotherapy to clients for a variety of challenges including trauma, depression, anxiety, and family dynamics. I work with those struggling to overcome a situation, past or present, that is causing them to feel stagnate or disillusioned. I'm a work and business psychologist specialising in the behaviour and performance of people and organisations at work. I work with individuals and teams on leadership, culture, well-being, motivation, and performance with the ultimate aim of helping people find clarity and direction in daily work. I also provide talks and workshops on these topics. My work is vocational, and I believe everyone can find meaningful and fulfilling work, but sometimes, we need help clarifying how that looks. If you are stressed and at odds with your business or work, or you are ambitious and goal-oriented, I may be able to assist you.

My interest in psychotherapy, spirituality and meditation began after the end of my marriage several years ago, which like many other types of losses, triggered a lot of suffering. Life transition, family and friends losses, the breakup of long-term relationships, stress, anxiety and depression are all part of human suffering. However, we have an innate capability, which we can strengthen, that allows us to navigate and, more importantly, learn from our most difficult life experiences.

Sometimes in life you need a place to explore the difficulties that arise. Either behaviours, feelings or emotions. At times you need to be listened to confidentially and without judgement. What troubles our minds can have such a negative impact on the quality of our lives. Psychological troubles come in many forms, relational both to oneself and to others, grief and loss, behavioural problems from anxiety or depression and rage or sometimes it's hard to tell exactly what it is, only a sense that things are not right. The first brave step to take is to share that difficulty.

Hello and welcome. Are you stressed, lost, anxious? Life brings many experiences our way, some good and some bad. The emotional impact of these experiences can be frightening or confusing. Our family have a lot of influence on us, how we behave, how we talk, and how we communicate. Loss, grief, and anxiety are challenging. Processing our emotions is an essential part of living a healthy life.

I'm a MA qualified Psychotherapist, trained in EMDR. I work equally with clients face to face or online via Zoom. EMDR is an integrative approach to the treatment of trauma related symptoms, it incorporates both mind and body awareness and has been scientifically proven to alleviate the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I also work in the area of sexuality, counselling individuals who present in therapy with relationship, sexuality and sexual concerns. I allow each individual to explore their sexual fantasies and desires in order to help them develop a level of comfort to converse on key areas of their difficulties.

Wherever you are. However you are. You are welcome. Yes, sometimes we just can’t do it on our own and we need help. Therapy is one way to resource yourself to meet some of life’s challenges. Crippling anxiety, overwhelming grief, black depression are sources of deep pain and dark suffering. They can also be as a consequence of early traumatic experiences or negative beliefs we hold about ourselves. To accept where you are is the first step in healing yourself. Hi, I’m Liam and I create a safe place for you to explore your world, where I meet you with compassion and non-judgement in a confidential setting.

Relationships have the potential to heal. Psychotherapy seeks to fulfill that potential. Psychotherapy creates an atmosphere of connectedness and union, in order that difficult experiences or emotions can be safely shared, acknowledged and integrated. The therapeutic connection becomes the safe space in which this happens. This emotional integration enables change and growth to happen for you. Whether you need to explore your relationships, your internal world or something difficult from your past; therapy has the potential to help.

When we are suffering we tend to look at all that is wrong in our lives. We sometimes make judgements and assumptions about ourselves or our situations that focus mainly on the negative. We each have developed ways of being in the world that have enabled us to cope with whatever challenges we have had to face. These coping strategies become our defence mechanisms and are often developed by us at an early age when we had few resources. They can sometimes create negative patterns of relating to others and the world around us and become barriers to intimate or professional relationships.

Prioritising presence, deep listening, and relational depth, I believe in the healing potential of a trusting relationship. Working collaboratively with you, my wish is to co-create a place of safety and connection where you may be free to explore whatever brings you to this space.

If you are an adult and have experienced abuse and/or neglect during your early years, then this is an area I have a particular interest in. Equally, if you are looking to gain insight into how early experience comes to shape and mould our adult selves, then perhaps I can help. It may be that you are experiencing a lack of joy or meaning in life and are looking for a safe and confidential space to explore your inner world. You may have anxiety, depression, obsessional thoughts, addictions, relational issues, loneliness, or it may simply be that you are attempting to situate yourself meaningfully into the greater social fabric

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
