Hello, my name is Ciara, Psychotherapist, Art Therapist, owner of Unfurl Art Therapy. I'm fully accredited with IACP and hold an MSc in Creative Arts Psychotherapy and BA (Hons) in Integrative Counselling and Art Therapy. But more important than the qualifications - I have lived through some dark and difficult 'stuff' and come out the other side! And now I work with clients to shine some light as they go through their own dark, difficult and chaotic experiences. We can use art or we can just talk. And believe it or not, we'll have a laugh too! Either way, I believe you will come through whatever is difficult for you right now.

I offer a safe heart centred space to help my clients unpack at a gentle pace that suits them. No problem is too small to bring to counselling. Talking things through with a stranger can help find and bring resources and solutions into sight and is therefore "the gift of therapy". I work with clients experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, and relationship problems. Sessions can be weekly or fortnightly to match your requirements. I have a wide range of training and approaches such as choice therapy, Positive thinking, meditation, mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, and shamanism.

I have 15 years experience working with adolescents, adults, and older adults from diverse backgrounds, supporting people through the issues that bring most of us to therapy at some point — anxiety, depression, complex trauma, grief and loss, addiction, and the relational patterns we find ourselves stuck in. Our job together is to identify what's getting in the way of the life you want, understand how those patterns took hold, and gently remove the inner and outer obstacles that are keeping you stuck. The focus is on real change, in how you feel, how you relate, and how you move through the world.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck in patterns that are difficult to understand, or finding yourself disconnected from who you are? Perhaps you are struggling in relationships, navigating a life transition, or coping with loss. I offer a warm, safe, and non-judgemental space where you can explore what is happening for you at your own pace. I believe that a trusting therapeutic relationship is central to meaningful change, and together we can begin to understand how your early relationships, the roles you adopted to cope, feel safe, or belong, and significant life experiences may still be influencing how you see yourself and relate

You might be the strong one, the one who gives great advice, who copes, who makes things work. But lately you're tired. Deep-in-your-bones tired. Maybe you're heartbroken, burnt out or maybe you don't know who you are anymore. Maybe nothing is "technically" wrong, but you still don't feel good. You don't need a diagnosis or a breakdown to ask for help. If you're wondering whether your pain 'counts' it does. You're welcome to show up messy, unsure, with a mix of issues you can't untangle yet. ADHD, heartbreak, shame, trauma. I understand this through training and lived experience. You don’t need to organise it before you arrive.

Codependency Counsellors
What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
