As a Humanistic Integrative I see the therapeutic relationship as a safe and containing space where clients can explore and be curious about themselves. For me the therapeutic alliance is a transformative relationship. Offering an open and trusting space where clients can talk freely. Meeting the client where they are at, providing a strong foundation to support the client in their journey exploring themselves, developing self-compassion and understanding, and resolving inner conflict in a way to create a more combined whole.

I believe that all children and young people deserve the opportunity to feel safe, to be happy and to achieve their potential in life. I work creatively using a non-directive, holistic model of Play Therapy to support children to help themselves. Working with a fun, non-judgemental approach I value all our talents equally. I facilitate children and young people to choose the activity in each session while I hold the space to keep everybody physically and emotionally safe. In Play Therapy children encounter the world at conscious and unconscious levels, working through difficulties in their own time.

Sometimes in life we reach a point where we need some support in navigating our path. Life can be overwhelming. Anxiety, depression, loss of important relationships, grief, childhood traumas to name a few, can all impact our way of being and we may struggle. Talking about your thoughts and feelings sets you free and step by step, you learn to untangle the confusion. Therapy can be a frightening step to take but I believe the bravest and one that can potentially change your life. I understand that it can be difficult to talk about your story. I aim to hold a space where you feel safe, non judged and heard.

Would you like to work through what is going on for you and find a way forward or perhaps you just want a space to talk and process what life has thrown at you . What is important is that you are in control of your journey through therapy and that you find the right connection with a therapist to do this.

You’re about to take the first step on a journey, perhaps to find more joy in life, perhaps to untangle relationships, perhaps to understand yourself or others better. Whatever the reason, if we get to talk, I hope I can help you along the way. I understand that for some people, deciding to speak to a counsellor can be difficult. My aim is to provide you with a safe, confidential, and comfortable space; somewhere you can truly be you, secure in the knowledge that there is no judgement, but instead warmth, understanding, empathy and a friendly face.

Counselling can help you find the words for experiences you were previously unable to speak about. You can learn to recognise, name and express your feelings. Counselling can teach you how to set healthy boundaries, how to be assertive and how to stand up for yourself. It is also possible to learn how to allow yourself to be vulnerable, in a way that is safe for you. Counselling can help you to tune into your gut, to listen to your instincts and to learn how to trust yourself. This self trust allows you to believe that you can manage - no matter the situation!

Coming to therapy is the first step to doing something about changing an aspect of your life that is causing you distress, or overwhelming you to such a degree that it is holding you back or keeping you stuck. Do not feel you have to suffer in silence. Your problems could be the way you interpret things or the lens through which you view things. Sometimes our thinking patterns need to be challenged, and we can find alternative and more useful ways of seeing things, leading to a more fulfilling life for ourselves. Therapy is about growth in our thinking , this leading to more positive thinking, leading to a better quality life.

I aim to provide clients with a safe and confidential space to explore personal issues. Working from a humanistic and person centred ethos means I believe that all individuals hold the tools within to heal and grow. When we experience early adversity or difficult life events we can find ourselves at a loss, grappling with deep feelings of unhappiness. Sometimes we can become at war with ourselves . Issues such as low self esteem, anxiety and depression can arise. I work in a collaborative and empowering yet gentle way to accompany you on your journey of healing.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
