This work involves imagery , meditation and EMDR if needed, with breathwork.
“Overactive” busy minds have difficulty slowing down. I see it everyday. Having genes for a mental illness does not guarantee having one. Exposure to traumas is also needed to cause a disturbance in transmitters and hormones in the body. I help a person when they are looking for help in reducing psychiatric medications or before taking them. My experience involves helping a person process their traumas to heal them emotionally. In Walsh protocol , food supplements are prescribed instead of psychotropic medications that participate in hormonal and neurotransmitter metabolism. I can speak English, Hindi/ Urdu and Punjabi.

I qualified as a clinical psychologist in 1995 and further trained in Humanistic and Integrative psychotherapy. This facilitates utilising different therapeutic approaches (psychodynamic, attachment-informed, gestalt, humanistic, interpersonal neurobiology & CBT) to meet the differing needs and individuality of each client. I strongly believe in the potential in all of us, with the right conditions, whatever our histories, for healthy development and growth. The experience of a supportive and respectfully challenging therapeutic relationship in individual psychotherapy can help connect us with the 'wise and healing self' within.

I work with neurodivergent and neurotypical adults, integrating CBT, ACT and EMDR to provide trauma-informed and neuroaffirming therapy.
Does your mind feel constantly on, making it hard to rest or switch off? Maybe you keep going, in a cycle of overthinking or self-criticism, that "not good enough" feeling, no matter how much you do. You're not alone, many of my clients keep it all together on the outside, but on the inside feel overwhelmed and disconnected from themselves. They've learnt to cope by staying in their heads and pushing through. You might know why you feel this way, but can't seem to shift the patterns. I help people slow down and understand what drives these cycles, reconnect with what's important, and feel more grounded and accepting of themselves.

A client describes her experience of therapy: 'For the first time I felt heard and understood. My feelings and thoughts were of importance and I felt accepted and validated in being me. No one had ever told me that it was okay to have my own experiences, to be sad, angry, frustrated, etc. And now through the experience of therapy I can accept who I am and I am embracing change in new and exciting ways'. Underpinning all my work is the belief that change and healing can only take place within relationship and within and through the experience of the therapeutic encounter an individual comes home to their true potential

EMDR Counsellors
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
