As an Integrative therapist , I specialise in
trauma
, anxiety, and relationship challenges.
Connection is fundamental to our wellbeing and survival. When we feel disconnected from ourselves, others and the world, it can be an isolating experience. When we struggle to express ourselves it can feel like we are pretending to be someone else. The fears and worries that can take over your mind, can be tamed and better understood. In therapy we can work as a team to help you understand yourself better, and develop your self worth. Through learning about yourself, you can also improve how you show up in relationships. Don't forget that you are your biggest and main responsibility.

My clients tell me that they trust me. That is a great honour and one I treasure. Whether they come for a couple of sessions to find their feet after a broken heart, or if they are living with severe
trauma
such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, they feel safe with me. They know they will not be judged. They need a safe, confidential space to allow their pounding heart and rattled nerves to relax. They need a warm and caring person to believe them and they value my experience and expertise. I work creatively, often playfully and with a sense of joy and humour in order to facilitate healing.

I began my training journey into counselling more than 25 years ago but paused it to pursue a career in the emergency services. It is here I developed my compassion for working with the most vulnerable people. I have held people as they took their first breath and those who took their last. I have been present for people experiencing their worst day and I have offered them and their loved ones comfort and support in those moments. I recognise the strength of each individual in the therapy room and respect them as the expert in their own lives. I work with a wide range of concerns from stress and anxiety to grief and bereavement.

Taking the first step in deciding to attend therapy is often the hardest part, it can be difficult to admit to ourselves that we may need the intervention of another to assist us on this journey. Coming to speak allows an individual to be heard in way that is specific to them, a singular , and not to fit the specifics of ticking the boxes. Speaking about your way of experiencing life and it's difficulties and challenges, can free up a person and allow them to look through a different lens.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
