Psychotherapy offers a deeply personal and private space where you can talk openly about whatever’s weighing on your mind—whether it’s anxiety, stress, trauma, or simply a sense that something isn’t quite right.
I work with a wide variety of issues. Sometimes, just getting into words what is troubling you is the first step on the journey to making changes. If you feel that time is now, please get in touch and we can speak about what works for you. I offer short and long term focused therapy for individual clients and I also run long term therapy groups, reflective practice and support for people with work issues.

Key to my approach is identifying objectives and goals for our work together such as experiencing feelings of inner peace and worth, connecting with a sense of inner purpose, experiencing the freedom to live life without feeling burdened or guilty, connecting more in relationships, overcoming feelings of anxiety or depression, overcoming trauma.
My approach is exploratory and professional. I work with thoughts, feelings and beliefs to figure out what is driving these so they can be updated and integrated to support my client in reaching their objectives. The safety and confidentiality of the therapy process and the well-being of my clients is uppermost in my practice.

Extensive research has shown its effectiveness for anxiety, depression, single-incident trauma (e.g. car accident, assault) and complex trauma (e.g. prolonged abuse).
Reading this shows that you are being proactive about taking care of yourself. While the motivation to seek support can often come from a place of discomfort or distress, therapy can help people move from crisis to personal growth. I offer compassionate expertise, psycho-education, support, reassurance, validation and guidance as healing resources for those that choose to work with me. You do not have to have anything "figured out" before contacting me; I know that starting therapy can feel like asking for something that is hard to ask for but important to get.

I work exclusively with couples. Many people come to me when they are in the middle of a specific crisis, feeling a deep sense of flatness, or are at a crossroads trying to decide the future of their relationship. Whether you are seeking marriage counselling or are in a committed long-term relationship, I provide the support you need to find clarity. I am passionate about helping couples build a solid connection and, where possible, avoid premature divorce. I never suggest ending a relationship; my role is to facilitate your goals. I also help those who want to separate to create a "good ending" with mutual respect.

We seek therapy for a number of reasons, at times due to a specific experience and at other times because we feel that there are patterns that we would like to address and / or change. Whatever the reason, the process of talking through our feelings and thoughts, in a safe, non-judgemental space, can, in itself, be healing and can propel or create change. You might feel lost in life, stuck, powerless, unable to function in the world without a mask, endlessly comparing yourself to those around you and never feeling or believing that you are enough or have enough.

I am a cognitive behavioural therapist/health coach with over 20 years of experience in health and well-being. I've worked in rehabilitation for more than ten years, helping people become the best version of themselves. I achieve this by understanding my own challenges and victories. Quote Pema Chodron- 'Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know'. It takes a brave person to reach out to another, whether it is for help with an issue you are already aware of, or as a means of understanding yourself a bit better. We can all become 'stuck'. I believe the potential to grow and heal comes from within. Alot of our life's struggles are relational, how we are in relation to our view of ourselves and how we experience the quality of our connection to others.

Life transition, family and friends losses, the breakup of long-term relationships, stress, anxiety and depression are all part of human suffering.
I use a somatic approach to address present concerns, supplementing it with CBT/ACT and mindfulness exercises. Experiential learning and skills development empower my clients to apply what they learn to their daily lives. While I enjoy working with clients facing a wide range of difficulties, I have a particular interest in anxiety, OCD and trauma

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
