As a therapist my role is to work with you, to bring about a more harmonious and connected relationship with yourself and in the case of Couples Therapy with each other. When you feel you are unable to talk to each other, I facilitate and show you how that can be very different. I can remove that stuck feeling and empower you both to communicate with ease and successfully address conflict resolution in your relationship. Sometimes we feel as if we are so stuck within ourselves and within our relationships, and its a perspective not a reality. When we approach issues differently, we create an oppportunity much understanding.

As a neurodivergent therapist with a late ADHD diagnosis, I bring both lived insight and clinical experience to my work. I understand firsthand how differently brains can work - and how important it is to feel seen and understood in therapy. I also have experience supporting clients across a broad range of relationship styles - including monogamous and non-monogamous relationship dynamics, and I offer a non-judgmental space to explore whatever is coming up in your relational world.

I am an accredited member of the IACP, the Irish Association of Professional Counsellors & Psychotherapists in Ireland. Having graduated with a BA (Hons) in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at IICP College, I am currently undergoing a placement at Accord CLG to strengthen my knowledge of couples' work. I view therapy as an introspective look at a client’s world, with an outside perspective. The outside perspective allows for a space to be heard on a human level, exploring and highlighting blind spots, opportunities and triggers. Therapy is only as effective as the work you put in to evaluate, understand, and change.

I am a person centered therapist with ten years experience. I work with individuals and with couples in an inquisitive manner, to create a safe and secure space where all emotionality is welcomed and accommodated. As a client, I will work to help you uncover the pieces about yourself that help you and I both to understand what systems and structures you have in place in order to feel safe. From there, we can work to accommodate these systems and give you a sense of self awareness. My couples work involves a session with each partner individually and then work on the relationship over a number of sessions with the couple together.

I believe in the power of healing. I believe in the power of therapy. I believe it can be very difficult to reach out and ask for help. I believe I can help, because I believe in peoples ability to change their lives for the better. I believe personal circumstances can make change seem a daunting task, but little by little, with the right support, it can be life changing. Why do I believe all these things? Because I was in a place where I needed healing and with the right person/people, I changed my life.

Gottman Method Counsellors
How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analysed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomised controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
