Couples find me when they are stuck in conflict, going around in circles and really want to understand what is going on in the relationship. I help couples understand what is really happening beneath the conflict - the patterns they have fallen into, their different conflict styles and the needs that can be difficult to express. Together we work on breaking those patterns, communicating differently and rebuilding connection, understanding and intimacy. The Gottman method is the only research backed couples therapy and is very practical in nature. Gottman method therapy helps couples rebuild a relationship for success.

I have experience working with sexual abuse and all its inherent trauma, and also pre and perinatal loss, and the complexities of healing.
I’m practising a long time and have experience with many client groups, from children and teenagers, families in various stages of disharmony, couples and individuals. I’m comfortable with both long term process work, and faster, solution focused, pieces. What is essential for change is to feel comfortable and trust the process. Relationships are always part of therapy so each session needs to be a safe and helpful experience. An important part of this work is to become aware of unconscious triggers and, ultimately, to gain control over these experiences, giving yourself the choice to behave in a way that better benefits you.

Hi! I'm Nicki Jordan and can offer you support to touch into the deeper parts of yourself. I offer the chance to take a pause, a breath and to understand your inner world, both mind and body, and work on any conflicts that arise when trying to align this with your life. I also weave my Somatic Experiencing Practitioner training into my approach. This means that I often work with what the body is presenting and less with story.

Taking the first step in deciding to attend therapy is often the hardest part, it can be difficult to admit to ourselves that we may need the intervention of another to assist us on this journey. Coming to speak allows an individual to be heard in way that is specific to them, a singular , and not to fit the specifics of ticking the boxes. Speaking about your way of experiencing life and it's difficulties and challenges, can free up a person and allow them to look through a different lens.

I work with young people, individual adults and couples. At our initial consultation, I have two objectives: to assess whether we can work together as therapist and client, and also to assess what is the appropriate therapy to offer you. Therapy is work. I offer a carefully-bounded confidential space in which to speak of anxiety, depression, hopes and dreams. My principal mode of working is a talking therapy but where appropriate I may recommend coping strategies (e.g. for panic attacks) and psycho-education (e.g. books or podcasts). In return I expect you to attend weekly, speak freely, and pay promptly.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
