Taking a decision to go to counselling is not always an easy one. When we are met with warmth, respect and acceptance it can be very powerful. It can open up that space where we can safely look at what might be causing our current difficulties'

Have your important relationships become a source of distress and hurt? Do you and your partner want to strengthen your bond but find yourselves stuck in cycles of conflict or disconnection? As humans, we are wired for connection, yet every relationship experiences rupture. This is our human condition. Healing and repair are possible and are essential for our relationships to survive and thrive. A wide body of research shows that secure attachment benefits both our mental and physical health. I support individuals, couples, and parents who are facing difficulties in their relationships with partners, family members, or friends.

I believe the answers to our own problems are within us. You are the expert. The narrator of your story. Your experience is unique. Only you know what it is to be you. How it feels. My role is simply one of companion. It is hoped that as you journey along at your own pace you will begin to unravel and understand who you are and why you feel the way you do. This insight has the potential to make sense of your difficulties. To find the light in the dark. To see new roads to travel, better ways to live, and new eyes to see the world. To eventually have the courage to take the road meant for you. To become who you truly are.

I have worked in private practice for ten years, working successfully with many challenging and chronic conditions. I work well with all mental heath conditions, however I specialise in working with Anxiety Disorders, in particular Panic Disorder, OCD, Health Anxiety, GAD and Phobias. Often, clients feel better in a short period of time. I have flexibility in my work and I recognise that each person is unique and works at a different pace, therefore the amount of sessions' differs with everyone, ranging from 1 to 101, however more commonly from 12 to 25. The sessions are 1 hour long.

For more than twenty years I have walked the path of healing, weaving together the insights of psychotherapy with the wisdom of Body, Breath, and Spirit. My work is integrative, grounded in Psychodynamic and Humanistic approaches, enriched by Somatic Experiencing, Reichian bodywork, Family Constellations, and Bioenergetics. It has also grown beyond the clinical, into a sacred space where esoteric spiritual teachings, crystals, and energy healing meet.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
