The initial phone call, usually 30 mins is free. The client may feel up-set and often emotional as they begin to talk about their issues and concerns. I make sure they feel heard and understand regarding their needs. I use the Internal Family Systems approach. It works on befriending our internal parts that cause us upset and realizing these parts have our best interest at heart. It facilitates inner child healing leading to transformation. I am qualified in sensorimotor psychotherapy for trauma. This involves working with the body which holds the trauma. This is done in a gentle effective way. "The body holds the score"

I am an accredited Psychotherapist working in mental health and wellbeing for over 8 years. Every person is a unique individual and so too are the issues they bring to therapy. Clients have come to me with issues such as anxiety and panic attacks, low mood, overwhelming feelings such as anger, shame and guilt, low confidence, low self-worth, feeling unheard, feeling sad but not knowing why, feeling stuck in their life. Sometimes people just want to understanding themselves, find meaning and purpose in life, set goals. Some couples are struggling in their relationship. Some want to explore a past trauma and its impacts on life today.

Do you and your partner want to strengthen your bond but find yourselves stuck in cycles of conflict or disconnection? As humans, we are wired for connection, yet every relationship experiences rupture. Healing and repair are possible and are essential for our relationships to survive and thrive. A wide body of research shows that secure attachment in our relationships benefits both our mental and physical health. My work is attachment focused and trauma-informed to create a safe, healing space in which couples can reflect on their struggles and bring peace to their relationship.

My wish for each client is that they be well. Every client comes to therapy with different needs. With strong foundations in somatic, emotional and cognitive therapies, I also offer the swifter interventions of Hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). Some clients want a quick fix, some want to explore and experience personal development. Some clients are top down, and others are bottom up. Some clients just need to talk, some don’t want to talk at all. Recognising these needs in how I work with each individual client is essential.

Source Counselling & Psychotherapy is founded on the belief that within you is a source of happiness, inner strength and resiliency that can enable you to deal with the pressures and struggles life can present. It is from these many sources that greater understanding of who you are emerges, a key factor in finding ways to deal with issues and problems you experience. Exploring your issues can provide you with a deeper awareness and understanding of the cause of these problems - the source. Knowing the source of a problem is only part of the work.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
