Anne Marie is an experienced psychotherapist who works with individuals when they are struggling, to help them find the source of their suffering. She helps individuals to find solutions to their problems by creating a safe space where they can untangle their thoughts and process their feelings. Some of these thoughts or feelings can restrict a persons life and keep them feeling stuck. Identifying what keeps a person stuck or drains them is the first step in a process that enables individuals to become unblocked so that they can move forward and live the life they want to live.

Paula O’Connor (MIAHIP) BA Hons. Psychotherapy & Counselling. Paula holds BA (Hons) Degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Dublin Business School and is accredited to The Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy ( IAHIP). Paula’s approach to her work is integrative and humanistic, a module that encourages the distinctly human quality of choice and creativity and emphasizes the hopeful view of human beings and their ability to be self-determining. I use the analogy of the therapist being the person supporting the client by holding the blank canvas while the clients create their many works of art.

Are you having difficulty coping? Do you feel tired all the time and lack interest in everyday life? You may be fed up with feeling stuck, struggling with negative thoughts or having little to no confidence in yourself. You might not even remember a time when things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to feel like yourself again. You’re ready to take control of your situation. Most of all, you’re ready to love life again & to face your future with a sense of hope.

Do you feel anxious, stuck, stressed or down? Perhaps you are having difficulties within your relationships and find yourself repeating the same negative patterns over and over again. Maybe you experienced a traumatic event that you feel may be negatively influencing your life today and holding you back from being the best version of yourself. I aim to create a safe, confidential space for both individuals and couples where we can explore the issues that you face and help you find a way to overcome them.

Are you finding it difficult to cope or having problems in your relationships? Perhaps you feel overwhelmed by your emotions or you find yourself overthinking? Psychotherapy can help you connect with yourself, make sense of your experiences and find solutions. I believe that life is complex and no two people experience it the same way. Therefore therapy is not a 'one size fits all'. I draw on years of experience as a therapist and I integrate approaches so that the therapeutic space is centred on you and your needs.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
