There are times in all our lives when we would benefit from some help and support. It can be difficult deciding who to see. With that in mind I offer all prospective clients an opportunity for us to meet face to face and discuss how I can help and for you to decide if I am the right person. I don’t charge for this and there is no assumption on my part that you will return, that would be your choice. I have extensive experience in many areas and am confident I can help you help yourself. Things can and do change for the better . . . there is light at the end of the tunnel. Individual sessions last 50mins and couples sessions 70mins.

Ask yourself a few questions. Are you experiencing a challenging stage in life, a conflicted state of mind, or difficulty within yourself that keeps on returning to trouble you? Are you finding relationships unfulfilling, stressful, or lonely? Do you worry about the future or are affected by the past? Do you replay everything you could have done differently but are consumed by guilt and regret? Do you spend a lot of time worrying about what other people think and how to make them happy? Maybe you are asking yourself how did my life turn out like this? It's exhausting. Isn't it?

Let me help you to navigate challenges such as stress anxiety, identity, self-image, and manage your wellbeing. Life has a way of presenting us with hurdles, and I understand the impact stress and anxiety can have firsthand. Because of certain challenges I faced personally, I discovered the transformative power of seeking support from a counsellor.

Things never have a way of working out in life as to how we thought it would. Life throws many obstacles in our path, which can be very challenging. These can cause us to question ourself, our lives and our beliefs. These can create anxiety or depression, feelings of not being able to cope. It can leave us feeling broke and feeling that there is no way forward. We loose someone we love or a relationship or job, which can lead us to grieving for what we have lost. Sometimes we just need to find the right direction for our life.

In my experience, I have come to see that no issue is too big or too small; the difficulty comes in trying to overcome it alone. Allow me to provide a safe, confidential, supportive, non-judgemental space for you to talk about and explore the issues which you may be finding challenging or painful.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
