My approach is Humanistic and Integrative, Person-Centred with elements of CBT and Mindfulness. I cover all areas of general counseling including stress, anxiety, grief and loss, and depression.

My work is integrative and holistic, which means that I use a variety of approaches such as Mindfulness, Dream-work, IFS and Inner Child work.
You may be looking for some sort of change in your life. That change could be physical or emotional. My work is based on the belief that if we want to create change in our lives, we must look within. To find out who we really are, we need to go inwards, challenge old beliefs, thoughts and behaviours, which can feel like moving away from everything we’ve ever known. I help my clients to see the connections between mind and body, to identify unhelpful patterns, establish new habits and ultimately live a happier life.

As an integrative therapist, I holistically blend a number of modalities tailored to each client, with experience in somatic work, sexual therapy, IFS, ACT, and mindfulness-based therapy.
My areas focus are relationships, eating disorders, & addiction. In both our relationships with self and others, I believe we all long to experience love, belonging & initiation. In relationships and in hardships, I see infinite potential for transformation and self-initiation: through the stuck places, the old patterns, the failed attempts to connect or feel safe. Underneath, the true you is waiting to be heard through the surface ‘symptoms’. If you can recognise where you’re at, you’re halfway there — and rather than just treating the symptoms, together we listen to what’s underneath, and help you to get free from the root.

My work combines a deep knowledge of neuroscience, mindfulness and the subconscious mind-body connection and how it creates people's experiences.
I work with women that feel stuck, particularly in relationships or professional situations that have them feeling overwhelmed, overlooked, unappreciated or undervalued. I help them release any latent beliefs or stories that are holding them back and reconnect to their most powerful and successful selves with a renewed sense of identity, a vision for how they'd like their life to be and the ability to reach their potential to get there.

I can help with many different issues as most of them stem from the same problem, repressed emotions. So whether it's addiction or relationship issues, the process in therapy is about reconnecting with the body and releasing those repressed emotions.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
