I love how resourceful people can be. Most of us don't question who we are or how we got here until in a crisis or conflict. Therapy can be useful for many reasons; self acceptance, letting go of others expectations, difficulties in relationships, feeling stuck, a personal challenge, or just learning more about yourself. I love studying the science of human behaviour and understanding why we are the way we are. I combine psychology and science with psychotherapy in my approach. I work with a wide variety of issues, and have additional training in a number of areas, constantly developing the services I can offer.

The Human Givens approach is a gentle, solution-focused, brief therapy which helps individuals find a solution to get their emotional needs met by using the resources they already have. By working together with my clients we can find ways for them to feel better after just one session. I work holistically, using the latest research from Neuroscience, Wisdom traditions, relaxation techniques, guided imagery and the wonderful resources my client already has. Together we can set a goal for therapy and work towards meeting that goal by creating achievable tasks between sessions. The therapy sessions last between 75-90 minutes.

We all want to feel empowered to live our best life. The problem for most of us is that we don't know how and end up feeling depressed, anxious, frustrated or stuck – and we usually turn to food, alcohol, drugs or other behaviours to help us feel better. If this seems familiar, I can help YOU take back control of YOUR life. Working integratively I include all of the elements that make up your whole person including conscious thoughts, unconscious senses, behaviours, somatic sensations and systemic influences. Contacting me is the first step towards YOU becoming empowered to create YOUR best life!

Making choices and empowering from within: Through collaboration, building the relationship and offering a sense of humanity, Ray has found people feel safe and comfortable to discuss any issue whilst also realising the need to do it at the client’s pace. Understanding by encouraging a client to make their own choices, the presenting riddle can be solved. By this I mean the labels of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem/confidence become less defining. Built on these achievements is a new sense of personal happiness and fulfilment: dealing with any issues in mental health, addiction and beyond.

Let's begin with a chat over a cup of ... what ever you fancy. My purpose is to help heal, teach and train people when they need some guidance in their life. As human beings, we all know what it's like to feel lost, confused or disconnected. When this feeling occurs, it is our mind and bodies way of trying to tell us that it's time to explore. To explore more about yourselves and to evolve. So.. let's begin with a chat and take it from there

I'm an organisational psychologist specialising in the behaviour and performance of people and organisations at work. I work with individuals and teams on leadership, culture, well-being, motivation, and performance with the ultimate aim of helping people find clarity and direction in their daily work. I also provide talks and workshops on these topics. My work is vocational, and I believe that everyone can engage in meaningful and fulfilling work, and sometimes we need help clarifying how that looks. If you are stressed and at odds with your work or sport, or you are ambitious and goal-oriented, I may be able to assist you.

I welcome all clients regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Clients who have experienced traumatic episodes in their life. Clients who have felt they have always been on their own. They may have always felt that they have had no one to protect them, never felt loved or nurtured. Clients who feel they are totally disconnected with who they are. Such clients may feel they are totally lost and have no direction in their life. I welcome all such clients to my practice. Together we will find the reconnection to Self and in doing so find a purpose and goal in life.

Counselling is a space where a person is encouraged to meet their own truth and relate this truth to another person within the human condition. A person is able to meet their true or real self in the presence of empathy, non-judgement and unconditional positive regard. I strive to provide these conditions to foster healing and promote well-being in all my clients in the therapeutic space I offer. A person who wants change in one or more aspects of their lives with a desire to reach their full potential is an individual who is on the road to personal and emotional growth and development.

Why can't I work this out? Will it never go away? How did I get into this? Having questions about our life is normal. The art is answering them. Sometimes life presents its own solutions. Sometimes no mater what we do we just can't make the problem go away. That is where counselling comes in. The professional relationship of counselling provides the opportunity to objectively explore issues. At Prevail, I James Foley, strive to establish a relationship that creates a safe space where you can offload, challenge yourself and hopefully initiate change on the concerns that hold you. Leading to more resilient you for the future.

I promote improved awareness of benefits of a healthy lifestyle with an emphasis on mental fitness and connection to self. BEING as connected and as aligned with our own true essence is probably one of the most challenging aspects of being HUMAN. For most of my life, I allowed my self-care and attention to be shifted and conditioned to serve others over my own core and essential needs. I now help you, through my experience and through the tools and techniques I have developed, to (re)discover, better appreciate and nurture unconditional self-love and care for the beautiful person you are (at your core).

I have a special interest in helping men who can get ‘stuck’ and struggle with transitions in life such as retirement from sport, losing a job, divorce, re-locating or simply helping you to figure out a purpose for what comes next. My approach is simple; non-judgmental, open and empathetic to client experiences. I take a broad perspective to understanding my client experiences and integrate historical information to formulating a plan to help clients resolve problems now. Depression, anxiety disorders, loneliness, anger and substance abuse are key areas that I specialize in.

I never take for granted the fact that clients who come to counselling are at their most vulnerable. For those who are struggling with issues like depression, anxiety, abuse, both physical or mental, anxiety, relationship or sexuality and gender issues, my role in the first place is to listen and to provide a safe and confidential place for my clients to make sense of their experiences. Research has shown that the relationship between therapist and client is very important to the outcome of therapy, so I always check with my clients if they feel what we are doing in our sessions are working for them.

I strongly believe in the importance of a personalised approach. The therapeutic process will help and support my clients in order to identify and address the source of their problems. My ethos is simple, I work side by side with my clients and I facilitate and support them in order to understand the stress and suffering that they are experiencing within the context of their life-history. I believe that no ones story is better or worse than others as our own pain cannot be measured. Regardless our circumstances, we all deserves to be listened to.

How can I find a therapist in County Dublin?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
