Perhaps unexpected life events such as bereavement, loss, relationship break-up or trauma have created a crisis in your life and you are finding it hard to cope.
I help clients to evaluate if their thoughts and behaviours are preventing them from moving forward in life and how they can develop better coping skills. I support clients in resourcing themselves to safely explore past trauma so that they can gain insight into the impact of trauma on their bodies, behaviours, belief systems and within their relationships.

Counselling can help, allowing you the time to talk about what's going on for you in a non-judgemental and safe space. Working with a counsellor, you can find out your truth, have a better understanding of why you do and think the things you do, discover coping mechanisms and lighten your load. If that's something you would like to do with me then I would love to hear from you.

My experience includes; loss/ bereavement, family and/or parenting issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression.
Sandra strives to create a therapeutic environment grounded in empathy while clients embark on their journey of self-exploration and personal growth. Her approach to psychotherapy is rooted in the integration of person-centred and psychoanalytic approaches. She is mindful that each client is unique and tailors her therapeutic approach accordingly by incorporating, for example, CBT, Schema therapy and somatic techniques. So often with symptoms of anxiety and depression, vagus nerve dysregulation is an unseen enemy and Sandra uses the principles of polyvagal theory to help clients become more grounded and centred in the body.

Throughout life, many people encounter hardships, emotional distress and anxieties. This can often lead people to become depressed, withdrawn in their relationships, experience low self-esteem, stuck, and ultimately further away from the life they want to live. When we are struggling, we can find it difficult to discover a path towards a fulfilling life. Does any of this sound familiar?

I work with such issues as ; Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Bereavement, Loss & Grief, Addiction, Relationship issues, Life Direction, Self-Esteem.
Behind every person who feels despair, lost, alone, helpless, panicked, depressed, trapped, is a person who can be helped. Sharing the burden, feeling supported, being heard, not feeling judged, empathy- these are all aspects of counselling that I provide. For some, it means telling their story and being heard properly, maybe for the first time ever. I have a passion for helping people to understand themselves better and working with them to remove the blocks in the way of their inner peace. Importantly, I always believe that change, release from suffering and a better way forward is possible for every person.

This includes working through past or current traumas, depressive states, grief, a range of anxious states, suicidal thoughts, and both planned and unplanned life changes.
While my approach is informed by humanist theories, I do not let these theories limit or define my work. I strive to meet clients where they are in their lives and understand their future aspirations. This understanding helps me tailor my therapeutic approach to best suit each individual. I make it a point to regularly check in with clients to ensure the path we're on is effective and aligned with their needs.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
