My ideal client struggles with codependency issues, they are not very clear on how to put their boundaries in place or they’ve had a traumatic experience or childhood. My ideal client needs to take control of their life by managing their emotions and learning new coping skills. Their goal is to feel self sufficient and fulfilled in life and to make the best choices for their wellbeing.

Welcome to Next Step Therapy, an experienced and friendly therapy practice in the heart of Dublin. Our clinical services are: counselling and psychotherapy, addiction assessment and treatment, EMDR for PTSD and complex treauma as well as clinical hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I see my therapy room as a sacred space where people can explore things they usually don’t talk about. I approach therapy with an attentive reverence and an attitude of kindness and compassion. The process of therapy is to offer a safe place to explore these thoughts, attitudes, feelings, moods or behaviours and to experience someone who listens and supports.

Lilli’s practice aims to assist individuals with difficulties, thought processes and symptoms that are a source of psychological and emotional distress, by helping them to invent and construct new solutions to life’s varied situations and challenges. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is a powerful, highly effective treatment approach for many people struggling with difficult emotions - it takes into consideration the singularity of each individual since no two people are the same. Therefore the treatment is tailored to each person’s unique needs and life situation.

I will accompany you as you gain insight into your feelings, behaviours and concerns. I can also support you in developing healthy coping skills, to enhance your emotional well-being. Counselling is not undertaken with the intention of changing who we are. It's an opportunity to understand yourself fully, so that you can begin to move forward from a position of increased personal insight and self-compassion.

Systemic Psychotherapy, also known as Couple or Family Therapy, attempts to understand a person’s distress within the situation in which it occurs, such as in the person’s family, couple relationship or in the wider environment. This therapeutic approach does not isolate the person, but rather helps individuals make sense of their difficulties in the context of their present lives. A family therapist believes that, while the origin of a problem may well have a foundation in the past, the solution can often be found in current relationships.

I believe in providing a safe space for clients where they are met with compassion and nonjudgement. I feel that the client possesses the inner resources within themselves to move through difficult experiences but may need support in facilitating this process through therapy. I believe in meeting the client where they are at and I tailor my therapeutic approach depending on the client’s needs. I am particularly passionate about issues relating to sex, gender and cultural issues as well as self-development and awareness.

Using the psychodynamic approach-exploring past events and understanding how these impact your life today is my central way of working. It allows clients to gain a deeper insight into the presenting issues. This promotes agency giving clients confidence to use their own resources to deal with life events.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in Dublin are psychologists, licensed counsellors, therapists, and psychotherapists, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualised treatment.

Services offered, education, and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in Dublin then may specialise in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counselling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.
How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in Dublin, or Child Psychologists in Dublin.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like Dublin psychologists specialising in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in Dublin specialise in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or counsellor who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

Can I afford counselling?
Yes. Most counsellors offer reasonable rates or will work on a sliding scale basis. Many accept health insurance. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the counsellor.
