Many of the people I work with come to me feeling overwhelmed, fearful, stuck, or like they’ve lost a sense of who they are. Maybe things that used to feel manageable now feel like too much. Maybe you're finding it harder to get through the day, to connect with others, or even with yourself. You might not be able to pinpoint exactly what's changed, but you know something just feels off. If you're here, you’ve already taken a courageous first step...even if it doesn’t feel like it yet. Starting therapy can feel daunting, especially if you're used to coping alone or fear that asking for support means something is “wrong” with you.

I am a psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist. My clinical journey began in Brazil, where I qualified in 2009, and continued with a Master’s in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from University College Dublin (UCD). Over the years, I have worked with individuals navigating emotionally complex and transformative processes. Much of my clinical work has involved helping people who carry unresolved experiences from the past — experiences that continue to shape their lives in ways that are often unconscious.

I work with young people, individual adults and couples. At our initial consultation, I have two objectives: to assess whether we can work together as therapist and client, and also to assess what is the appropriate therapy to offer you. Therapy is work. I offer a carefully-bounded confidential space in which to speak of anxiety, depression, hopes and dreams. My principal mode of working is a talking therapy but where appropriate I may recommend coping strategies (e.g. for panic attacks) and psycho-education (e.g. books or podcasts). In return I expect you to attend weekly, speak freely, and pay promptly.

I work with couples and individuals, providing a neuro-affirmative, open approach. At any stage in life we can be met by challenges that interfere with our happiness and sense of wellbeing. Some of these challenges are caused by events like trauma, bereavement, a diagnosis of physical/mental illness or a relationship breakdown. Or, we may feel out of balance or sad, our thoughts are negative and we can't connect. Our relationships may be suffering. We are not sure what is causing this, we just know that we are not living a full life, something is missing or holding us back. Couples may be in crisis and wondering if they can last.

I currently support individuals dealing with anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), low self-confidence or self-esteem, and insomnia.
I am currently available to take on new French-speaking clients. I am a French-trained psychologist offering online therapy, recently based in Dublin (Ireland). Initially trained in neuropsychology, I gradually specialized in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
