I have particular interest and experience with working with people experiencing mental anguish including those who struggle with ruminating, obsessive and intrusive thoughts, anxiety and depression.
My clinical experience includes hospitals (both psychiatric and maternity), and a prison where I worked as an addiction counsellor. I have worked in psychotherapy clinics for the last 10 years, where I have worked with people of different ages and backgrounds, with different types of sufferings and reasons for attending therapy.

OCD and anxiety are specialties of mine.
Is anxiety impacting your life negatively? Do you obsess in your mind over events, thoughts, or feelings? Are you finding that you're stuck in patterns trying to escape yourself? These experiences are common issues for many people which can wreak havoc on all aspects of our lives, leaving us feeling exhausted and hopeless. Many try to cope as best as they can with these circumstances alone, but without proper support, may find themselves going around in circles with little relief and feeling trapped.

While I enjoy working with clients facing a wide range of difficulties, I have a particular interest in anxiety, OCD and trauma
My interest in psychotherapy, spirituality and meditation began after the end of my marriage several years ago, which like many other types of losses, triggered a lot of suffering. Life transition, family and friends losses, the breakup of long-term relationships, stress, anxiety and depression are all part of human suffering. However, we have an innate capability, which we can strengthen, that allows us to navigate and, more importantly, learn from our most difficult life experiences.

I specialize in the areas of anxiety, panic attacks, stress, sleep difficulties and obsessive compulsive disorder ( OCD).
I am a Chartered Psychologist of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), Psychology lecturer, therapist and published author. Every person is uniquely perfectly imperfect. I work with clients as individuals and take into account what matters most to them. I support them in building skills and living a life in the direction of their deepest values. We can't always prevent life's challenges from occurring but we can change how we respond to the thoughts and feelings that arise when things get difficult. I only use evidence-based interventions.

I believe the answers to our own problems are within us. You are the expert. The narrator of your story. Your experience is unique. Only you know what it is to be you. How it feels. My role is simply one of companion. It is hoped that as you journey along at your own pace you will begin to unravel and understand who you are and why you feel the way you do. This insight has the potential to make sense of your difficulties. To find the light in the dark. To see new roads to travel, better ways to live, and new eyes to see the world. To eventually have the courage to take the road meant for you. To become who you truly are.

I specialise in trauma, bereavement, anxiety, attachment, and OCD.
Do you feel 'stuck' or overwhelmed by life's transitions? I work best with individuals who feel disconnected from themselves or weighed down by anxiety and persistent stress. Perhaps your usual coping mechanisms no longer feel like enough, and you’re looking for a safe, non-judgmental space to process the weight of burnout or complex relationship patterns. My ideal clients are ready to look beneath the surface and want a therapist who is both a compassionate listener and an active collaborator. Together, we will move from simply 'getting by' to living a life that feels authentic, empowered, and deeply aligned with who you truly are

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck on patterns of anxiety, self-doubt, or difficult relationships. You may find yourself replaying conversations, worrying about decisions, or feeling frustrated by repeated challenges in life. These experiences can feel isolating and exhausting, making it difficult to understand how to move forward.

In my practice, I have supported individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, grief, relationship difficulties, and academic or work-related stress.
Are you finding it hard to manage your emotions, relationships, or sense of self, and feel that something needs to change? Reaching out for support is a courageous first step, and it’s often where healing begins. As a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, I’m here to walk alongside you in that process. At the heart of my work is the belief that people are not problems to be solved, but individuals navigating complex emotional experiences. Therapy can be a place to better understand yourself, soften your negative inner critic, and develop new ways of relating to your emotions and relationships.

Clients may use therapy to talk about distressing experiences they have recently or not so recently undergone, dilemmas or difficult decisions they find themselves faced with, or symptoms such as depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts and rituals, and some varieties of chronic pain for which there is no apparent medical cause.
I have had an interest in psychoanalysis both as a system of thought and as a form of therapy for many years. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy can be an enjoyable and intellectually fascinating way of getting to know one's own mind, as well as a way of bringing about change on a deep level. Treatment is fully confidential and non-judgemental.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
