I work with both adults and adolescents and provide a type of listening that is singular to each person (not a one answer fits all model). By attending therapy you release yourself of burdens and concerns and ongoing symptoms and find new ways of looking at life. The work I facilitate provides an insight and outlook that is focused towards helping each person find more understanding of themselves and what they want for themselves. My experience includes people with different psychiatric diagnosis, people experiencing grief, loss, addiction, ruminating and obsessive thoughts, pre and post natal depression and eating disorders.

While I enjoy working with clients facing a wide range of difficulties, I have a particular interest in anxiety, OCD and trauma.
My interest in psychotherapy, spirituality and meditation began after the end of my marriage several years ago, which like many other types of losses, triggered a lot of suffering. Life transition, family and friends losses, the breakup of long-term relationships, stress, anxiety and depression are all part of human suffering. However, we have an innate capability, which we can strengthen, that allows us to navigate and, more importantly, learn from our most difficult life experiences.

I currently provide a professional and confidential service for adults presenting with depression & low mood; low self esteem ; anxieties disorders, including OCD , panic, phobias, physical health conditions, self-harm.
Our physical and mental well-being are interlinked. At times we may feel our worries and anxieties are dictating the way we live our lives. At times we find ourselves not able to enjoy things that we used to and get no sense of achievement in activities that we do. Do you want to make changes, but you have no idea on how to begin.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is ideally suited to clients who are undergoing a certain amount of mental suffering, and are motivated to do the slow, demanding work of finding out what has given rise to it. Clients may use therapy to talk about distressing experiences they have recently or not so recently undergone, dilemmas or difficult decisions they find themselves faced with, or symptoms such as depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts and rituals, and some varieties of chronic pain for which there is no apparent medical cause.

ANXIETY, STRESS, OVERWHELM, PANIC. If you have difficulty with any of these or related issues such as insomnia, fears and phobias such as fear of public speaking, social anxiety, ocd , impulsiveness, or anger, maybe I can help. Do you have difficulty with emotion regulation, concentrating, staying present, do you sometimes wish you could relax, focus, be fully present, and engaged? Again, if so, maybe I can help. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the "go to", best evidenced therapy for anxiety. Compassion-Focused approaches also have sound evidence backing them up and in my experience can be invaluable in the process of therapy.

I specialize in the areas of anxiety, panic attacks, stress, sleep difficulties and obsessive compulsive disorder ( OCD ).
I am a Chartered Psychologist of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), Psychology lecturer, therapist and published author. Every person is uniquely perfectly imperfect. I work with clients as individuals and take into account what matters most to them. I support them in building skills and living a life in the direction of their deepest values. We can't always prevent life's challenges from occurring but we can change how we respond to the thoughts and feelings that arise when things get difficult. I only use evidence-based interventions.

I have extensive experience working with individuals across the lifespan with varying difficulties including anxiety, phobias, grief, low mood, low self esteem, OCD , stress, parenting.
I can listen and offer you support based on your needs and in line with your goals and values. If you are feeling stuck in work or relationships, have parenting concerns, are lonely, anxious or stressed, I can help you. Together we can come to understand how you have got to where you are and what we can do to help move you forward. This will differ for everyone and will be based upon a thorough assessment of the presenting difficulty. Often feeling heard and understanding a problem is the first step to improvement. We can then build a tailored intervention that will meet your needs and we will review this regularly as we progress.

I treat a variety of common mental health difficulties and life challenges (e.g. mood and anxiety disorders, OCD , PTSD, complex trauma, relationships issues, stress, low self-esteem, perfectionist traits). Some people aren’t quite sure what’s going on for them, but something just doesn’t feel right. Whatever your struggle is, I want to help you to get your life on track, break out of unhelpful patterns of behaviour, and find meaning and satisfaction in life. I can offer you a safe and non-judgmental space to explore what it is that’s causing you difficulty, and an evidence-based approach to help you to finally move forward.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
