My ideal client struggles with codependency issues, they are not very clear on how to put their boundaries in place or they’ve had a traumatic experience or childhood.
I offer a fresh perspective on my clients issues which doesn’t come from a place of bias. I explore my clients thought process along with their core beliefs and challenge any negative automatic thoughts that my client may be experiencing. My aim is to raise awareness around any behavioral issues while teaching new coping skills.

My ideal clients come to therapy feeling lost, overwhelmed, burnt out, and unsure of who they really are. They’ve spent years adapting to meet everyone else’s needs, often neglecting their own, and find themselves repeating painful patterns that create chaos and anxiety. They want to understand why this keeps happening. More than anything, they long to feel heard, seen, grounded, and calmer within themselves, and to build a stronger, more secure sense of identity.

I am a psychotherapist specialising in trauma, and I use Somatic Experiencing (SE) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapies to support healing. My therapy space is designed to feel calm, safe, and welcoming. I am also lucky to have the company of Nanuk and Oscar, my dogs, who have a wonderfully grounding presence in the room. Many clients find that having them nearby adds an extra layer of comfort and ease — particularly when working through difficult or intense emotions. Sessions are collaborative and client-led. YOU are always in control.

Are you stuck in patterns you don't understand, held back by anxiety, difficult relationships, or a persistent feeling that something is "off"? These struggles are not flaws, but messages. My role is to help you listen to them. As a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, I provide a confidential, non-judgmental space to explore the roots of your distress, which often lie in unconscious thoughts, memories, and repeated patterns. Together, we will work to uncover the ‘why’ behind your struggles—whether they involve trauma, identity, sexuality, or a longing for change—so you can move forward with greater freedom and clarity.

My perfect client is someone who feels emotionally overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, and is ready to understand themselves more deeply rather than just “cope” on the surface. They may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, burnout, self-esteem issues, or the lasting effects of past experiences, and they want a space where they can slow down and be truly heard. I help by offering a warm, non-judgemental, and collaborative therapeutic relationship.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
