I work with individuals and couples who are finding life hard to carry. Individuals often come with anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, trauma, low self-esteem or a difficult life transition. Couples come feeling stuck in conflict, disconnection, or a loss of trust and closeness. Whatever brings you, I offer a warm, confidential and non-judgmental space to make sense of what's happening and move towards the changes that matter to you — at a pace that feels right. I see clients in person at Grand Canal Dock (Dublin) and Bray, and online across Ireland.

It is hard to describe what psychotherapy is really like. One of us, Jonathan Shedler describes it well. "We are changing life patterns. There is no path from Point A to Point B that does not traverse the unknown Real transformation occurs when patient and therapist can enter and embrace that unknown Perhaps it is like ancient sailors setting out to sea in search of a new and distant land—but uncertain how far they might have to travel before they once again set foot on solid earth, or what they might find when they get there" There is no substitute for meeting face to face though. And proceeding or not from there.

Contact Via WhatsApp/Email. My focuses are relationships, eating disorders, & addiction. In both our relationships with self and others, most long to experience love, belonging & growth. In relationships and in hardships, I see infinite potential for transformation and evolution: through the stuck places, the old patterns, the failed attempts to connect or feel safe. Underneath, the true you is waiting to be heard through the surface ‘symptoms’. If you can recognise where you’re at, you’re halfway there — and rather than just treating the symptoms, together we listen to what’s underneath, and help you to get free from the root.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or not quite yourself lately? Perhaps you feel like you are constantly "spinning plates", trying to keep everything and everyone going while your own needs get pushed aside. Sometimes life can look “fine” on the outside, yet inside things can feel heavier, more difficult, or harder to navigate than they should. If this feels familiar, we can walk this path together and figure out a better way. I offer a safe, confidential, and compassionate space where you can slow things down, explore what is happening, and feel truly seen & heard.

Hello, my name is Ciara, Psychotherapist, Art Therapist, owner of Unfurl Art Therapy. I'm fully accredited with IACP and hold an MSc in Creative Arts Psychotherapy and BA (Hons) in Integrative Counselling and Art Therapy. But more important than the qualifications - I have lived through some dark and difficult 'stuff' and come out the other side! And now I work with clients to shine some light as they go through their own dark, difficult and chaotic experiences. We can use art or we can just talk. And believe it or not, we'll have a laugh too! Either way, I believe you will come through whatever is difficult for you right now.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
