I work with people of all ages, dealing with anxiety, trauma, relationship and family issues and all the things that life may throw at us.
I place great importance on the quality of the relationship in counselling, if you don't feel comfortable and safe, it is difficult to speak openly about what is on your mind. I provide that safe space

Over the past 20 years, I’ve explored a diverse range of issues, from anxiety to alternative sexualities, complex addictions to transformational spiritual/unbounded experiences—every client brings a unique life journey.
As a gay therapist, I know firsthand how important it is to meet with someone who speaks the same language: while every client brings individual experiences to therapy, having a shared common framework with another gay man helps make sense of those experiences which are unique and distinct to being gay. My practice looks at all aspects of gay life including coming out (and its legacy); sexual practice and performance; gay aging; drug/alcohol/porn use/abuse; surviving heteronormativity; and particular challenges men face in forming committed relationships, including the complexity of maintaining open and/or alternative relationships.

Many of the clients I work with are experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, grief, life transitions and relationship difficulties.
Building a strong therapeutic relationship is central to how I work. I aim to create a space where you feel safe to express yourself fully. While therapy often involves exploring difficult feelings and experiences, I also believe that humour and moments of lightness can play an important role in helping the process feel more natural and supportive.

Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, a broken heart, a divorce, past trauma, parenting, a death or loss, there is hope.
I work with both male and female adults and couples. It amazes me how the past can truly affect the present. In the work that I do, it is primarily the holistic approch I use. It is using a combination of different therapeutic styles such as humanistic, existential and Gestalt. it is about you the client.

We may be anxious, feel estranged from those closest to us, or feel that we have lost our way in life.
Stepping across the threshold of a therapist's office can be a daunting experience and there may be many reasons why we are seeking support now. Yet there is so much potential and possibility in that act. It takes courage to pause and look at something that is disturbing us, but with that enquiry can come great insight and a fuller understanding of our way of being in the world.

I respect the autonomy and sovereignty of my clients in looking for the kind of support they want. My training was and continues to be thorough and experiential integrating Gestalt Therapy and mindfulness. When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
