Life is challenging. Everybody faces difficult issues in their lives at one time or another. It could be with your partner, family, at work or with friends; remaining stuck in the same patterns of behaviour and preventing you from growing and moving on to live a more fulfilled life.

I specialise in supporting clients to heal from complex trauma. I have a particular interest in overcoming coping behaviours such as using food to comfort or numb out. I find my clients often have had painful childhood experiences. My training in social work has provided a backdrop for understanding early adverse childhood experiences. Many of my clients are also highly sensive. I support people to become unstuck and to gain much needed self esteem and confidence.

Do you find that you have been pushing through, keeping it together on the outside, but inside something feels different — flat, tense, or just off? Do you find yourself feeling stressed, pressured, anger, or numbness without fully knowing where it’s coming from. As a trauma-informed therapist, I can offer you a safe and confidential space where you feel truly heard, accepted, and understood — perhaps for the first time in a long while.

You might be someone who appears to be coping on the outside but feels anxious, low, or uncertain underneath. Perhaps you struggle with self-doubt, overthinking, or a persistent sense that you’re not “enough.” You may be questioning your direction, your relationships, or your sense of purpose. You want clarity, steadiness, and a deeper understanding of yourself. You want space to think, feel, and speak openly, without being judged or rushed. Most of all, you want to feel more grounded and confident in who you are and the choices you make.

Hello, my name is Ursula and I work as a psychotherapist online across Ireland. I understand that living with the weight of past experiences can leave you feeling stuck, disconnected or overwhelmed. Trauma can shape the way you see yourself, your relationships, and the world around you. As a trauma-informed EMDR therapist, I work with adults who are trying to make sense of painful experiences. Many of the people I work with are living with the effects of trauma, bereavement, or addiction (either their own or a loved one’s). Others are dealing with the emotional impact of illness, anxiety, or sexual violence.

Nosce Te Ipsum. Therapy begins with a dialogue about what indeed brought the client into the therapeutic setting. Clients’ thoughts, feelings and experiences provide much of the fodder for a therapeutic dialogue. Much of the work in therapy involves making sense of these thoughts and emotions. The therapist educes the client’s stories; clients narrate and share them. This integrative framework provide the lens in which I listen and connect to the narratives and presenting issues of my clients. As the tempo takes its momentum, a gradual progression of humanistic kinship, trust and understanding between my client and I are entrenched.

Substance Use Counsellors
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counsellors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
