Living with misdiagnosed neurodivergence & OCD showed me how overwhelming, isolating, and misunderstood mental health struggles can feel.
My personal experience shapes how I show up for others today. I offer a space where nothing is “too much” or “too silly” to talk about. Together, we’ll gently untangle difficult thoughts and feelings and make room for a kinder relationship with yourself.

While I enjoy working with clients facing a wide range of difficulties, I have a particular interest in anxiety, OCD and trauma
My interest in psychotherapy, spirituality and meditation began after the end of my marriage several years ago, which like many other types of losses, triggered a lot of suffering. Life transition, family and friends losses, the breakup of long-term relationships, stress, anxiety and depression are all part of human suffering. However, we have an innate capability, which we can strengthen, that allows us to navigate and, more importantly, learn from our most difficult life experiences.

Deciding to come for counselling can often be a difficult and drawn-out process. It is often also a very rewarding and enriching experience leading to changes in one’s life that reduce distress and increase one’s ability to cope with difficulties and challenges. By it's nature the process involves engaging with uncomfortable aspects of oneself and our relationships that are challenging. The goal of the process is to increase self-knowledge, self-acceptance and self-compassion to enhance our capacity to relate to ourselves and others in healthier and more fulfilling ways.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in your thoughts, or carrying grief that feels heavier than you expected. Maybe you’re exhausted from overthinking, people-pleasing, masking, or trying to hold everything together. You want to feel calmer, clearer, more like yourself again. I offer a warm, grounded and non-judgmental space where you can slow down and untangle what’s going on. I work holistically, looking at the whole of you — your thoughts, emotions, past experiences, relationships and values. I draw from CBT, ACT, psychodynamic approaches and mindfulness.

Life is challenging. Everybody faces difficult issues in their lives at one time or another. It could be with your partner, family, at work or with friends; remaining stuck in the same patterns of behaviour and preventing you from growing and moving on to live a more fulfilled life.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed and unable to focus? Feeling worried, struggling with the world today. Recovery is possible - I use Trauma Informed Care, EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I focus on working with clients struggling with Anxiety, Stress, Depression, Trauma and Unresolved Childhood Issues. When I first meet with a client, we discuss what has brought them to therapy. With this information we discuss how we will work with together. The first session with any new client is to assess if we can work together and if the client feels comfortable with continuing the therapeutic process.

I aim to provide you with a safe, welcoming space where you can ‘bring all of you’, where we can begin the process of exploring the reasons that bring you to therapy, in a compassionate space, that allows you to reflect and gain greater clarity. I firmly believe that the process of being heard and witnessed enables us to open to aspects of our ourselves and our lives that we are normally reluctant to acknowledge but are the foundations of change. I work from the belief that each person is unique, therefore the therapeutic process is unique to each person and will depend largely on your specific goals, desires and needs.

I’m Patrick, I am an integrative psychotherapist. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming; you may be experiencing a crisis or have been struggling for some time. Some of the difficulties we may face include anxiety, stress, depression, relationship challenges, family issues, life transitions, low self-esteem, bereavement, suicidal ideation, work-related stress, and burnout. You may be exploring neurodiversity (ADHD, autism etc), identity issues, existential and spiritual matters, seeking greater self-understanding, or meaning and purpose in life. Therapy can help, and you have taken a courageous first step by considering support.

Stepping across the threshold of a therapist's office can be a daunting experience and there may be many reasons why we are seeking support now. Yet there is so much potential and possibility in that act. It takes courage to pause and look at something that is disturbing us, but with that enquiry can come great insight and a fuller understanding of our way of being in the world.

How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
