Bernard D. Beitman M.D.

About

Bernard Beitman, M.D., is a visiting professor at the University of Virginia. He is the former chair of the University of Missouri-Columbia department of psychiatry. ​Bernard D. Beitman, M.D has a private practice in Charlottesville, Virginia.

His book Learning Psychotherapy received two national awards for its interactive training program for psychiatric residents. He is internationally known for research in panic disorder and chest pain and has edited several books about how to integrate pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.

He went to Swarthmore College, Yale Medical School, and did his psychiatric residency at Stanford. He was chair of psychiatry of the University of Missouri-Columbia medical school for 17 years. In high school and college, he was captain of the baseball team. He was scouted by the Oakland Raiders pro football team and played rugby at Yale and in San Francisco.

He has written Connecting with Coincidence (2016). A new book, Meaningful Coincidences, will be released in September 2022. The book serves both as a personal guide to using synchronicities and serendipities as well an introduction to the new discipline of Coincidence Studies. Dr. Beitman is the founder of The Coincidence Project which encourages people to tell each other their coincidence stories.
